Hey guys,
Thanks for all the replies.
Borg, I have used pingplotter to do a tracert and there is no ping blowout to any of the servers I am having trouble with, so there is not a routing or isp problem. (Any more than usual) As stated earlier, it is fine when first connected then blows out.
I updated quake live on my old pc, also a win xp box, and the problem does not exist on that one. Seems to be a problem with the newer pc.
As bom saw the other night, I don't have the problem now Fingers crossed, I don't get it again.
Thanks again for the tips, much appreciated.

Windows 7?
I'd recommend a 'fresh' install as sometimes a 're-install' only over-writes some files and it may be a file that's not over written that's causing the drama.
If so, head to
C:\Users\CaptainGubbmeister5000\AppData\LocalLow\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3
and copy to somewhere else any config, demo or ui or any other file you want backed up.
Assuming you've installed your OS on C:\
Almost 100% certain that's your logon?
Then...
Go to: Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Find Quake Live and Uninstall from there... sometimes pays to restart before a new install as well.
