from memory h = hammer p = pull, hammer is slapping the finger onto the fret and I believe we're all familiar with pulling off? :P

Yeah, your getting there Dv8. Havnt played tabs for sooo long...

Drop D tuning is to lower the base note E to a D.

The only strings played are the ones with a number on them.
The number indicates which fret.
When numbers are listed above each other, those strings are played together.. either strum or simultaneous multi finger pic.

Yes, that is A string played on 5th fret... the "p0" indicates pull off to 0... the "p" part indicates you pick A string on 5th fret, then pull your finger off the note after your play it... in this case 0 indicates fret number 0. May take some practice to get the 2nd note to sound clean. I usually, sort of, play the 1st note then lightly pic with the same finger as I lift the finger from the 1st note.
It could well be 8p6 = A string 8th fret pic / pull off to 6th fret...
.. or it could be 6h8 = the "h' indicates hammer up = A string 6th fret pic then hammer that note up to 8th fret.

Hehe... yep, play all 3 together as 1 sound - 8,7,0 followed by 2 strings 10,7 then 2 strings 8,7 the one string 7 etc

Considered a Holy Grail & foundation starting point of classical guitar playing -

"When numbers are listed above each other, those strings are played together.. either strum or simultaneous multi finger pic."

that helped cheers thankyou

thanks INK on hammer lol , man thats hard to master straight off .

So its not Pick then open , yer automatically thought that , im thinking of thunderstruck intro open b pick b finger straight off , found i wasnt lifting my finger straight of as i picked im not sure if thats what you mean im abit unsure of the pulling off bit lol , string wise ffs

play all 3 together as 1 sound - 8,7,0 followed by 2 strings 10,7 then 2 strings 8,7 the one string 7 etcThat helped ty , no wonder it sounded crap . lol

yeah inky and toga are right man. the p is for pull off (and this doesn't mean have a wank after each note!!! )
pull off is when you play the designated fret in this case being 5 the slide your finger down to pluck the string so that it plays as an open note being 0.
if you watch the clip you can sorta see how grohlsy does it.
i will post a vid of myself playing it a bit so you can see the finger work.
will do that tonight.
and on the other issue with playing all the strings is in the fact that i copied and pasted from ultimate-guitar.com and its blended it together a bit, i have modified how i play that tab to suit me better but here is the link to the original which is a lot easier to read.

also there is no strumming in the album version so its all finger plucking.

yes well persisting with thunderstruck , sounds ok and im only still on the intro , still not sure how
to hold the pick , still dont get what you mean by pulling off , i know and open string like thunderstuck is open b 4th fret then then b , then open then b 7th fret then b7 etc then open b 6th fret , b 6th fret then open b 9th fret then b 9th fret etc then back , still unsure what you mean by pulling off the string tho , pick grip etc , cloesd fist with pick or a couple of fingers resting on guitar etc .
lol im still back at the start mate >

was looking for ac/dc lessons on youtube got this

yeah sorry when i said slide i meant downward off the string as in plucking it with your fingering hand i didn't realise how i worded it!!! yeah dont slide so much and pluck the string (if your righthanded) with your left hand. i find sliding it downward off the string is the easiest way to play it in this song as the pattern is quite fast.
geez lucky your here toga, other wise Dv8 would end up not knowing WTF he was doing!!!! :P
ps. sorry if i still didnt explain that real well

plucking it with your fingering hand

and pulling off , lol k breath , getting confused lol , but today my speed on thunderstruck is nearly there ,
and found i was using the pick to hard to , found that soft n gentle seems to be better , getting there on one song that is lol .

"To slide a note is indicated by a straight line between the numbers thus 5\0 = Slide down from 5th to 0 fret..."

so same string slide on the string up the fret board from 5 to 0 ?

Your confusing me with your term 'slide up from 5 to 0'...
Open strings are 0 and the bottom of the scale / neck ... 5th fret is mid scale / neck & 10th/12th fret is high scale / neck ...
Thus 5\0 is a slide down from 5th to 0 fret... the original Tab listed was 5p0 = pull off

Try this little exercise Dv8... on any string you like do - 5h7p5h7p5h7...
Which is simply hold one finger on 5th & hammer 1 finger on 7th... bouncing on and off the 7th repeatedly like a 'twill' ... try to get many notes in a row as you can, only pic the very 1st note ... does that make sense ?

That should give you the action & sound of hammer on / pull off... but heh, your a single dad so im not telling you anything new :P

"does that make sense"

5h7p5h7p5h7...

sort of lolz , hold on 5th as in keep your finger on it will hammer 7th got that , but then you say 5th hammer 7 Pull down or release 5th ? /let go of 5th p5h7p5h7 hammer 7th ?

LOL single dad har har , havent got time for one of them lol , tight ship isa wot tit is :D
