warping in the instacomp

Strange thing is, this is the 4th AiM comp (including the one iFT comp we ran last year) and the issue of warping has only arisen in this comp. What has changed?

Sketchy do you think there is a big organisation behind the AiM comps?

Its hard enough getting people to show up to compete let alone ensuring there are referees or admins officiating. Practically no one has sent demos. So trying to review fucktards that cheat, either intentionally or otherwise, is almost impossible and tbh too time consuming. So much for relying on peoples goodwill. With a name like iddqd you probably wouldnt get that.

Well fortunately there haven't been any haccusations this time nobody hacks any more, I trawled all the old hack forums and they are filled with people raging that their account was banned by some sort of anti-cheat (this is since the update).

faux, to check the progress of the QL anti-cheat system. there hasn't been a release of qlhook since the update that has worked successfully, just a bunch of people crying that they are getting banned, and changing IPs, re-installing windows, changing their windows serial number etc, did not help

I'm really not sure why there's a point to use a cheaters site to check into the development of anti-cheat software that you have no control over anyway (unless the point is to circumvent it?) but fair enough, each to their own. On one hand it blows me away that people can be bothered cheating in a game let alone that there's a site dedicated to it. But then, if you can think of it, human's somewhere will be into it, no matter how retarded or deranged it may seem, so on the other I'm never surprised by anything people do. And with that said, I'm certainly not surprised that people will actively engineer their warping to gain a flag capture advantage. There's probably a bloody forum devoted to "How to Warp in QL and Get Away With It' too lol.

Like you said mate, AiM iCTF is not the world Olympic committee.
Its your comp, your prize money, your efforts behind the scenes, your call of the rules and your final say how they are implemented.

With such piss poor anti cheat coding, QL will always have haxorz... even still, they thrive on overpowering games with hax coding... much less the absolute plethora of alia's they resort to in an effort to remain 'anonymous' & active in the scene.

Its a fine line with many factual & honest reasons why people warp... and like all rules/games/events, there are people that intentionally and actively engage in manipulating & exploiting loop holes.

Time for some tuff love perhaps Gubb's ?

If a team does not submit a demo as per rules - give them a forfeit
If a team fields a member who is suspect of being a haxin alias - give them a forfeit
If a team or team member displays ongoing laggin / warping that may give them an unfair advantage - they sub that member or forfeit
If 2 teams cant be grown up enough to fairly address these issues them selves at the time it happens in server - give them both a draw
If a team / member is consistently in the spot light for any / all of the above - remove them from the comp

Wouldn't it be much easier to enforce two rules only:

1) Warping players must leave the game (and if possible be substituted) immediately upon receipt of an in-game complaint. Apply zero tolerance to warping players.

2) Demos must be provided ONLY IF a complaint regarding suspect activity is received, including accusations of warping. Apply zero tolerance to complaints received without demo evidence.

2) solves BS complaints in 1) because if the complaining team can't later on provide evidence of the warping they automatically forfeit their win (if they won) for creating needless disadvantage to the opposing team.

I see every reason why demo recording must be enforced. But I see no reason why demo's are required at all to be sent unless something needs to be looked at specifically.

Demos provide a source of archival material on the one hand as well as providing the means to review any potential issues. If they are not gathered on the day or thereabouts they never will be as they will either be deleted or lost along the way. I have resigned myself that people are too slack to send them on let alone record them, not that it should be that hard to do with tech savvy people as gamers.

Screenshots on the other hand are a standard form of registering a win, and this too, seems too difficult for teams to do.

So all teams that havent posted their wins are disqualified. Comp over.

Thats how it would roll if that rule was enforced. This may well be the last comp. If peeps dont give a shit, nor do i anymore.
