Dude, good start to your youtube posting career here at the PiT! I like these guys a lot, well their first and second albums anyway, they kind of fell off my radar and I never really spent enough time with their newest.
I take it you're familiar with Primordial? This is their best song after the fucking mighty Empire Falls. Really fantastic impassioned vocals, good lyrics, great riffs....what's not to like?

Re: Mael Mordha - The Serpent and the Black Lake
How in donkey punching heaven did I miss these guys? They sound awesome! Currently trying to rectify my lack of Primordial now
In staying with the folk theme (kinda), judging by your Av I'll assume you've seen these guys before...
Katla had the best voice! Sounds so authentically trollish and aggressive, last few albums with new vocalist not so good.

och aye, Primordial are one of the finest metal bands ever to grace Satan's black earth! I would recommend you start with their album "To the Nameless Dead", closely followed by "The Gathering Wilderness" which is the album The Coffin Ships is from. I must say I envy you listening to Primordial for the first time
Not a fan of Finntroll, just way too jumpy for me, don't dig on the Humpa. Have you heard Moonsorrow? They share a member with Finntroll. I think I can safely say there is no band as truly EPIC as Moonsorrow (in the true actual meaning of epic). Here's a taste for the uninitiated, from their latest album (they have more or less a flawless discography. Their earlier stuff is more folky and their later stuff more epic):

Re: Mael Mordha - The Serpent and the Black Lake
Obtained most of what you just mentioned up there^
It's hard to find good metal these days, it's easier to discover more old stuff.
Anyway... from one of my favorite bands, a demo track from '89 (Ok so the starts pretty average but what proper metal song doesn't have a shitty start?)

I must confess I am not a big Darkthrone fan either. I kind of missed the 2nd wave of Black Metal and Emperor is the only 2nd wave band I really like.
Good is metal is hard to find I agree, but there are dozens and dozens of awesome bands out there if you're prepared to do the leg work. I'm more than happy to recommend more stuff if you can let me know your favourite bands.
Currently I am on a massive Doom/Sludge/Stoner kick, and I'm finding a lot of good shit. These guys are my latest discovery - heavy all all hell and filled with psychedelia:

Re: Mael Mordha - The Serpent and the Black Lake
I'd love some recommendations!
I'm into all sorts of music but as far as metal goes... in NO particular order:
Death
All your standard BM bands (Mayhem, Thorns, Bathory, Gorgoroth, Dark Funeral, Dimmu, Immortal, Burzum, 1349, etc.)
Black Sabbath
Hellhammer
Mercyful Fate
Deftones (Not kvlt metal but still big on my playlists, inspired me towards darker music in general)
Dodheimsgard
also keen on most sub genres of black metal, melodic, symphonic, folk/troll,
Basically if it's related to metal I like it with exceptions along the lines of:
Screamo, Death Metal(The growling really does sound terrible when overused like that) Trivium, Killswitch Engage, actually 99% of american metal.
So hard to narrow down!

Re: Mael Mordha - The Serpent and the Black Lake
OK so even tho i don't rly listen to metal much anymore here are 5 songs that still make me wanna smash it up! Mostly from late 80's early 90's. The thing I liked about that era was the metal was simple compared to the wankers today trying to be "different" - you all sound like a bunch of emo girls nu-metal. 80's to early 90's ahhh..... they were the days
Napalm Death
Bolt Thrower
Tiamat
Carcass
Lawnmower Deth
Loads more bands i could put up that shaped my younger musical life...... just spent 2 or so hrs on youtube reminiscing

Arguing on the internet is like winning the special Olympics. Even if you win you're still a 'tard!
jay, for a man who doesn't listen to much metal you have uncanny good taste
Carcass - Necroticism is, in my opinion, the single best pure death metal album ever written.
Napalm Death, the godfathers of Grind. I'm not a huge fan, but they are a fucking powerhouse (and still going strong too dude, they are releasing a new album in a few weeks)
Bolt Thrower are just fucking great. Few bands are as universally loved as Bolt Thrower in the metal scene mate, they are a classic example of substance over style.
Haven't heard either Tiamat or Lawnmower Deth, I'll be checking them out shortly I will return in an hour or two to post some glorious metal recommendations \m/

Mate your thoughts on those bands mirror mine uncannily (fuck u used that word too - gtfo of my head dude). They are the bands that i could put an album on now and listen start to end.
EDIT: OH fuck forgot this - the late 90's just before metal started dying for me.....
1997 Strapping Young Lad - Detox (Fkn awesome riffing)

OK, some recommendations. iNKoRP you've given me a good list to go on. Man, I could have posted dozens of clips but I figure 6 is a decent start. Can easily be cajoled into doing more.
First some utterly kult black metal. This is The Ruins of Beverast from Germany. This album is very dark and the atmosphere is positively sinister. I consider this band (it's one dude) to be the best Black Metal band currently going.
Now I want to introduce you to Anaal Nathrakh. These guys (2 dudes) are British and play a black/grind/death mash of unrelenting fucking fury. It was hard to choose a song (they have 6 or 7 albums) so I picked 2!
Something totally different here. This is Isis, a "post-metal" band from the US. They have a pretty big back catalogue, but this track is from their best album.
Fucking grindcore. I love it. This is Rotten Sound and they have been around for a long time. I'll let this live clip say it all, if you're not digging it try jumping to about 3:15, you'll be smashing your face against the table in no time.
You've probably heard Taake. Black Metal from Norway (of course). This song has the perfect black metal riff from 1:45
I'll end this one with another new discovery for me. This is Yob from the US. Doom, total doom with heavy Sludge and a side order of psychedelia. This takes a while to get going but it is totally worth the wait.

Re: Mael Mordha - The Serpent and the Black Lake
Dude, I think I love you.
dug every recommendation pretty hard. But especially RoB and Anaal.
Was all 'wtf is this shit' with Rotten Sound until the aforementioned 3:15, then yes, tables were damaged, and faces were smashed.
Taake I'd heard the odd song, but was never really impressed that much but based on the strength of the other recommendations I'll give them a closer look.
That song from Isis sounds like the moody lovechild of Deftones and Alice in Chains <3
Yob sounds pretty intriguing, perfectly weird with a hint of brutal.
That should keep utorrent busy for a while
Thanks for taking the time to do that mang, much appreciated.
