It'll probably be a while before I get a new tower. When I do I won't be ruling them out automatically.

RYZEN 2xxx series - they seem to be good! a bit of an improvement over the 1st series. but they dont really seem to overclock much unless you get the lower specced ones. but the 2700X seems to work better left as is than overclocking it . but it is good!
need to get myself one of these and have a play! hehe

any one thinking of getting one of these new cpu's?

anandtech did a review on them last week and patched up the current intel cpus ie 8700k spectre and meltdown flaws and found that the Ryzen 2700X was faster for the vast majority of things including games ! sounds good to me! :)

as it turns out anandtech got their review of the Ryzen 2X series cpus a little bit wrong . intel is still a little bit faster but only marginally these days . even at at a lowly 1920x1080 res

as of late intel cpus are going up and up in price to rediculous levels cos of a shortage of them cos they cant seem to make 10nm cpus successfully . they have been struggling with this for the last 3 years, meanwhile AMD have leap frogged them ! Amazing really! :)

if you want to buy anything good that is not going to cost u you an arm or a leg or have to sell a kidney or 2 then i would steer clear of intel unless you are made of money . i guess you could buy the cheaper versions. even they have gone up a lot in price. :(

new Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 vidieo cards are out now too and you will need to sell all your families kidneys to secure on of these babies! the performance seems good at higher resolutions and they go on about this real time ray tracing and a new super sampling technology but for all us avearge Joes its not really do able eg performance is insanely expensive ! its just not worth it atm . :) no games currently use any of the new features yet anyways.

more bad news ram prices are stupidly expensive as well atm. arghhhhhhhhhhhhh pc gaming is tough at the moment :(

best value system now is probly -

AMD 2600/2600X $235/ $310 intel 8400 $300 or if want to overclock - intel 8600K $389
am4 mb B450/ X470 $165-300 intel mb H370/Z370 $180-350
ddr 4 ram 16GB $300 ,, ,,
vid card gtx 1080 $750 ,, ,,

with intel you will need to buy a seperate cooler ie hsf {amd comes with one in the box}

make sure you buy a good power supply of 650 watts miniumum approx $150

cheers BIG ears

14 months old, with warranties... I thought it was a steal @ $700

Hey, Just grabbed my youngest a new system and putting it together now, first one in a long time. Hes like " hey have you done this before?" and I thought " oh! its been that long you were too young to remember our house filled with computer bits"

Its Ryzen 5 3600 + Radeon RX 580 + Coarsair 16gb 3200 +intel 512Bg M.2 SSD. Fingers crossed its ok to run some games.

Whats the go to games these days? Anything Quakeish happening ???

How is that one going frodo? I'm thinking of getting very similar spec for Mrs K. She uses the PC more than me now so I guess she should have the better rig. Everything I have read about the Ryzen chips is very positive.

Hey Kanon, Its been a while.
Box worked out ok, they seem to have a few RAM issues but not a big issue.

benchmarks here https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/20411209

Finally got back. Thanks for the links frodo. Haven't done anything about it yet. I think most of that info will be overkill for Mrs K as she won't be gaming as such. I will keep in mind the ram and mb info though.

Hope everything is going good for you.

RYZENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 30000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 IS HERE !

actually been here for a while but i been a bit slow at dropping in of late!

FRODO - RYZEN 3600 is a GREAT choice! BEST value by a country mile! you dont mention your motherbaord! i been looking at the B450 chipset basically cos i want it to be as cheap as possible! DID I SAY CHEAP AS POSSIBLE ! loking at eh MSI Tomahawk MAX has a bigger bios and alos comes reloaded with 3000 series update! so u fdont nmeed to flash it to recognise your new 3600 cpu.

They stil overclock although very limited overclocking ability cos the cpus are running on their limit straight out of the box or very close to it! They dont have SLI and Dont have PCI-E 4.0 but i dont care!

RX580 are cheap and good mid level!

16GB ram is a must {2x8GB]! for RYZEN 3000 series i would be buying the 3600mhz c16 18 18 39 Gskill made for RYZEN its $200 ! compatability should be sweet as bro !
These days their is more and more stuff to tune with and make your RYZEN cpus work better mnd more optimized as they become more refined in their evolution! GEEZ thats sounds pretty wanky but i will go with it! haha

if u want more cores then the 3700X [$515] is the next best cpu! 8 cores and 16 threads! its a BEAST ! and cheap too! for what it is!
if you want pure gaming beast then the intel I9 9900K 8 cores/16 threads is still the best atm $800 or an alternative is the 9700K is only $600 but only 8 cores /8 threads! both are not as secure as RYZEN but...

keep rolling in your experiences with RYZEN ! i am very curious to see what people have found !

cheers! :)
