wacky drive issues

This happened a few weeks ago and im yet to find a fix or solve it.

I was midway through burning a cd in my new ASUS DRW-2014L1T, and the software froze up, so destroyed the process and all was good. Except now the drive will not recognise any CD i throw in, it just doesnt reponed when trying to read the disk. It reads DVDs and burns to DVD-Rs fine, but cannot handle a CD. i've updated the firmware, uninstalled, reinstalled and nothing :s its whacked.

same thing happen on a different OS? is that on windows, if so fucken windows; i have had a similar thing on windows but the new firmware did the trick

Yeah its Windows XP.

It woun't be that the cd laser has died? Have you tried it on another machine?
