If you disconnect the wire the powersupply turns off... got to leave it connected.

Remember stay away from the old AT powersupples too dangerous!!!

i was just having a look at my p4 expecting to see a plug just like that; turns out there isnt... the only power cable going to my motherboard is a square 4 pin plug; it has 2 orange and 2 black wires. is this a profiteering psu or do new psu's have this plug? and since this plug is different will the motherboard fit into a normal case? its a compaq evo

the edge of the psu covers the back edge of the mb; cant see the plug but it would have to be under there; i can see a green wire near the edge of the psu which isnt connected to any other place so im guessing the plug is there some place

ok i bought the new case yesterday; installed everything today; compaq computers have bullshit; stab the ,makers in the face. the mounting holes are in different areas than normal so i have to drill new holes; some of the cards dont line up so i have to engineer that a little but thats nothing really; also had to change the hard drive bays a little to fit the mobo in right; and yes compaq pc's do NOT have the standard atx plug; fuckers...... its pretty much alll sorted now tho; ill post pictures when i can :D

Thats a bit of a bugger ..ME.. I've had to transfer a few compaqs into standard atx cases (as the original non standard sized powersupply died) and was lucky enough that everything fit easily into the new atx case. Only problem was the front pin out for power/leds etc were non standard so it was a bit of hit n miss till I worked them out.

Hope you get it all worked out m8.

yeh thats the other thing; i have to solder new lugs onto the mb to get the front leds working; not really bothered tho, also i cant find where to plug the front usb and audio plugs into; they are already on teh mb but not the right pins, not too worried about that eitehr; the case is good tho; cleans up my room a lot

finally some INTEL Core 2 Duo action ! i have had to wait a while and it is not even for me but alas i have dun it at last !

one really strange thing is when i first booted it up, the cpu fan did not start spinning! FKN SCARY :(
it was trying to go and then did a little spin and then a little bit more but it took a while and then finally went ok! now i am not sure but i am having an educated guess and would say that it seems to be designed to not really start to work until the cpu hits around 20C and u can set this with the Gigabyte easy tune software tool which comes with the motherbaord ! it is really handy! i changed the cpu fan speeds to start earlier and max out at lower temp as well! i have actually maintainged teh original idle temp as b4 it was overcloked!
idle = approx 27C-28C and full load = approx 42-45C going by the easy tuner V5 tool!
cant complain about that! pretty sweet! [ all with std hsf unit! ]

when i run 3dmark 2005 i graphed the vid card temps - idle = about 45C and full load it = about 55C and the card is a silent type with no fan, only heat pipes! which is suprisingly good!
3dmark score = 5654

got all the shiz biz and put it together today and had a bit of a crack at overclocking it !

E6400 [$319] runs at std speed of 2130mhz . overclocked it to 3200 mhz straight up! the ram maxes out at 400mhz. but i will try it a bit higher tommorrow if all goes well! hehe i read a lot of stuff and they say it should be good for that and it was ! woo hoo! i had to up the core voltage slightly but still kept it within the +10% margin of safety just!

i run a few benchmarks on it already and so far it seems really good! i will run prime 95 tonight all nite and see if it is still going in the morning!

now if only i had dual 8800gtx s to crank up ! hehe or DUAL x ATI X1950 xtx's to crank up seeing as it supports ATI X-FIRE ! hehe haha:P

i run 3d mark 2001se to see what sort of score it would get ! 2001se is not so vid card dependent , it scales well with the whole system! well at 3.2ghz i got 31511 3dmark score! woo hoo! that is about 50% faster than my uber putey although the vid card is probly slightly less in performance! which shows just how much more cpu power ther is in the new systems!

well it is supposed to be 4 my sister and i guess it is an allrounder with capabilties to some video editing! and it must play Tiger Woods Golf game like no other! hehe hahah :)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13ghz [default fsb = 266mhz] x4 = 1066fsb $319
Gigabyte GA-965P DS3P [pro version] supports firewire + ATI X fire [ 1x16x + 1x16x @4x] $229
OCZ 2GB [2x1gb] pc6400 Platinum Rev2 4-4-4-15@400mhz $429
7600gt gigabyte silent heatpipe thingy! runs way cooler than expected! $219
Antec Trio PSU 550W $159
1x 320 Seagate hdd SATA2 $139
2x 250GB Seagate hdd sata2 in RAID 0 striped $230
Liteon dvd writer 18x $49
floppy drive black bloody expensive $20
Veiwsonic E90f+ 19" CRT monitor = $165 fkn mint for $165
Logitech X-530 spealers 5.1 cheap but reasonable for $ $89
Keyboard and Mouse - Microsoft business pack $49
Case - Elcheapo =$70 junked the psu and butchered the front to fit 2x 80 mm fans vertically! :) $70
got a netgear dg834 adsl modem as well they are moving into the real world now! woo hoo $89
Verbatum dvd -R 16x 50pk $29
Benq cd blanks 50pk $15

all up it cost $2330 or so

if it was my own i would wait till the E6600 are cheaper and also get a better vid card and put in a Thernmal right SI-128 HSF unit + 120mm adj fan ! run better fans and get antec p180 case and make the sucker quiet as a mouse! hehe :)

i did 3d mark 2006 and also run prime 95 at the same time and monitored the temps
i also run these with the covers on to see how hot it would get enclosed. not much worse than without them ! still at 3.2 ghz @ 1.450Volts for cpu core! + 10% on std spec !
cpu at idle = 27-28C full load with bith proggys running maxed out at 53 C
vid card idle temp = 45 C full load maxed out at 58 C :)

im testing it out now at +6% vcore [ 1.4000V] for the cpu to see how it fares! seems ok so far as well!
