well the best gaming mouse you could probably get is the mx518 it is also the best value for money, purely because it is optical not laser. However the new laser mice are really good so instead of spending $35 on a mx518 you could spend $50 - $200 on a laser gaming mouse. It also depends on what grip you use, if you are a decent sized hand and use palm grip the mx518 is for you, if not get any of the laser gaming mice.
I bought myself a logitech G5 a while back and let me tell you, it was a great mouse i had no regrest buying it but if you use lowish sens and you get to a point when you are good at quake and have super fast movements (like me) the laser doesn't keep up so it fucks up your game. I then bought myself a Logitech G9 which is by far a great improvement over the G5. Great shape, has custom grips, looks sexier, and is an overall great mouse and the laser is more than enough no matter how good you are, so you will never get too fast for it. I had accidentally pulled out the cable from the mouse (my fault not the mouses, its built really strong) and i was too lazy to fix it so i stole my brothers mx518 for a month or two, which is a great mouse and will do you for years.
So my point is, if you want to go for value for money, and you have a sufficiently sized hand and a palm grip guy, go for the mx518. If not I would recommend the logiitech G9.
