Quake Champions closed beta signup

Postby Dv8 » Sat Mar 11, 2017 8:06 pm

https://quake.bethesda.net/en

Willits clarified, "It's going to come out after a really, really long closed beta. I'm telling people now, it's going to be a long beta."

Quake Champions will be free-to-play, with an option to buy it outright

A look at the first Champion to be revealed, the stealthy assassin Nyx, below.

The Closed Beta is expected to begin in the coming weeks

It's playable at the PAX booth so hopefully that means sooner rather than later.

They were buying codes on ebay to play on the US servers, pretty sure we won't get a code until the AU servers are up

mick gave me a code for this past weekends play on US servers, must admit i am underwhelmed by what i saw so far. Nothing special, a bit confusing with what weaps are being picked up, i probably didnt pay enough attention or look into it to gather my wits, but all in all, it was just another game... what i dont understand is how classes make any sense in this type of game. In other games, say ET or DB or COD etc, classes like engies and medics have specific functions that are not about killing but performing functions to enable the completion of objectives (fixing or blowing up shit, healing and reviving teammates, providing weapons and health). This is irrelevant in a pure shooter. How are the classes useful in say CTF or CA or TDM when CA and TDM are only about shooting and CTF only need to cap, all of which dont need engies or medics, so the classes seem pointless to the majority of gameplay in quake...?

It wont run on my computer anyway , i dont think i'll upgrade just for this ...

I think you'd be right Gubben , just another game , nothing special . Since doom 2 and quake 3 theyve never been able to get it right or go back
same as Duke nukem forever :-/

Classes in QC , like you said , why ? Just typical of developers trying to cast their net wide to players that play class based games ...

Was it like Q3A at all , like was it as fast etc ?

yeah movement was good and it felt like quake, but i found the maps hazy looking and had no idea what weap i had until i fired it... just need to familiarise myself with it, but all in all i was left feeling meh... I think its really hard for them to reinvent the wheel when the wheel works just fine. Is it the new maps that people want? cos at the end of the day a shooter is a shooter, if there are no objectives to achieve. CTF is the only objective based mod in quake and it only requires someone who moves fast to do the flag run, but no other classes to achieve the objective (aside from maybe FT which is also really just a shooter with a variant)... objective based games like Dirty Bomb require teamwork with members performing different functions to back up the attack or defense and a pure shooter like Quake doesnt really need those classes... unless i am completely missing the point, in which case, ploise explain!

Yer the classes in this i thought were different ( the stealthy assassin Nyx ) than Wolfenstein etc in that each class had a special ability like medic , recon etc , this is more a characteristic like teleport , Stealth ( whatever that is ) at will etc , run faster .

Which imo turns the whole Quake game , well ? dont know how their going to balance that .

The paid version will have all Characters with their individual abilities the free will be restricted to a few from what i read .

Regardless im not forking out at least 2K to play champions , if it kicked Q3A out of the park yer if not , no :-)

yeah the classes seem a bit pointless beyond novelty value, i cant see how they are supposed to help in team games or otherwise for that matter... Why would you fork out 2k? Where does it say its going to cost that much?
