They should let it "die" and then let the steam workshop at it (community built mods etc) and watch it have a renaissance all over again when the community can fix all the problems and lack of features.

Funny isn't it, how after games go open source, the community who play the game make the most significant development to the games, and mostly in spare time, not even being paid to develop or maintain it! :O
