found this article while lolling about watching trick jump vids, turns out Carmack never liked strafe jumping and tried numerous times to remove the exploited bug regardless of the players love of it!

no wonder nothing good ever happens to quake live! :roll:

What an inexorable douche lord? Without SJ I'd probably never have bothered with Quake. Movement and weapons played a massive role in getting me hooked.

IKR, nemine the millions of people willing to shell out cash monies, let's just make a little personal project. If 2 versions were released I know which one I'm after.

tbh SJ more often then not makes someone easier to hit as you can predict their path more accurately then some noob bobbing and weaving on the spot.

If it's a bug then shouldn't it have been an easily predictable one? .. I thought Straffe Jumping was simply the resultant of two oblique (and equal sense) vectors making a bigger vector (left/right+foward). You'd have to round down pretty hard to negate that law of physics. I suppose that's what happens when gamers code simulations rather than physicists or engineers.
