I wanted to go see it last week but no one else wanted too. It's had some shit reviews though. I'll probably just wait for a torrent.

i just got home from it, its 1hr 20mins of a fella running around holding a camera. U see a couple of aliens, u see the army shitting themselves and shooting it, nothing really gory in that respect but one of the main characters gets bitten pretty cool.

the end of the movie is gay as fuck.... two ppl sitting under a bridge saying 'ohh shit... aliens.... u know more than me...' then there is a burst of flames, a couple of rocks fall in front of the camera and the credits at the end of the movie come up... i presume the aliens take over the world eating all the tastey ppl and arse raping the not so....

if one was to come across a torret i would say yeh watch it but its nothing overly great. still alright to pass an hour and a half tho.

lol.

Jof, its worth the watch... as much as there have been a few bad reviews and what not.. but if you take the movie for what it is - its brilliant. What the movie is about, and how it is done is the only way JJ Abrams could have pulled it off. I admit when i walked out i felt a little dissapointed until i remember what the movie was about... and the movie isnt cut n dry like every other movie - its not supposed to have a real ending, its not supposed to tell you what happend.

the movie is supposed to give you a realistic dipiction of what average people would go through if something like that happened. I mean alot of stuff gets left out (like where the fuck the monster came from) ... but realistically in real life your not gonna fucking know anyway - which is why it never gets explained properly.

In regards to the ending.. you hear "help us" and a sound.. that sound has been recorded and played backwards it says "its still alive" ... (thank you youtube).

If you are after a movie which explains everything for you, gives you a nice ending and is a very 'hollywood' style dipiction of some heroic guy trying to defeat a gigantic creature (lol@godzilla), look elswhere...

This was my point over at the xkcd forums. [Spoilers involved]

I didnt' really follow the pre-release hype so apart fromt the trailer had no real idea...

IMO, there is no other way you could have done that movie and successfully pull it off. It had to be 1st person camera. Personally i hated blair witch.. but this rocked. And no problem wtih motion sickness....

In regards to informing the viewer what was going on.. it only ever gave away what hud/jason/robert/marlena/ben/beth would have known... pretty much nothing - which worked. I loved it.

The sound was epic. Some people might say it was too loud at times (just before going into the subway where the marines are firing AT4s and the tank goes past), but the film was supposed to be realistic, and how loud it was... was realistic. As already stated, for those that have ever been around automatic fire / machine guns knows just how loud it is.

Marlenas death (gets bitten and starts to bleed from every orifice)... i mean it doesnt take a genuis to use your imagination.. something exploded from her chest (bug or no bug), it was freaky and again you don't get to see it properly or have it explained because real life doesnt have a 'explainer' to prompt the viewer what happened.

Only gripes i have is why did they have to show the monster at the end when it killed hud? as it has already been stated, the imagination + what was already shown of the monster was enough to keep you scared of it. The fear of the unknown is so much more powerful.

All in all , i loved it to bits. And was rather tense in parts because i felt the fear they would have felt.

I liked it, but I would have liked it a lot more if they'd given the camera to somebody other than the biggest Mongoloid cockbag they could find. Midway through the movie he spends five minutes just screaming "Rob! Rob! Rob! Rob! Rob!" and holy shit I wanted him to die. He also did fuck all in the subway like the useless bag of shite he was.

Ended up seeing it this afternoon and really enjoyed it. I knew going in it wasn't going to be clear cut and there'd be loads of things unexplained so I wasn't disappointed by that. Quite a few people left the theatre 20 - 30 minutes in and didn't return lol. I assumed the shaky cam was making them ill. I was gonna yell cg_fov 120 n00b at the screen but thought better of it. :)

Some things could have been done a whole lot better and there were quite a few "sif" moments. But it was refreshing to see a disaster movie done differently. After the slow start it really was griping viewing the whole way through and I thought the sound effects were fucking top notch.

Was it just me or did the monster seem to change size at the end? At one stage it looked fucking enormous, dwarfing skyscrapers, then it appeared to be only 20% of that size when it ate the camera guy??? And yes as someone stated earlier in the thread there was no need for that close up, kinda cheesy and would have been better without it.

Looks likely they're setting it up for another one. I heard there might be another one that is recorded from another persons/groups POV, which could be interesting.

my thoughts are, it was a normal "ok" movie, shot from some cunt who couldn't afford a good camera, its like paying for porn someone shot on a 150$ digi cam imo
