Government wastes money on porn filter.
The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success
Here's the thing: the people who are crying out for an internet porn filter are 1. Lazy parents, 2. technology illiterate. So much so that they will be happy when they are simply told that there is now an internet porn filter. Government gets the votes they were fishing for, lazy parents get to pretend to themselves that their kids can't see porn (and thus that they are in fact good parents, for wanting a porn filter). BUT, kids can see porn! And I say good on 'em! All teenage boys should have access to porn - and now they can, safe in the knowledge that their parents think they can't get it. Everyone wins! And the extra beauty of it is, for all the lazy parents, if they do catch their kids looking at nekkid chix - it's not their fault for being lazy parents! It's the governments fault for not having a good enough porno filter. This is a great day for the Australian people.

nah mate, no kids. I thought the part about how all teenagers should have access to porn was a give away
I do rekon that things like a "government porn filter" simply enable the "its not my fault" mentality that is so prevalent these days. In this instance there is also the factor of a fundamental lack of understanding of computer technology. The government is not well situated to deal with issues like this; it is set up to create, administer and implement policy and it does so very well (yes, a gross over simplification), but it is a long way from being able to effectively deal with modern technological issues like this. Working in IT in government highlights this exact issue 100 fold - the people who are in charge are essentially too old to understand the issues, let alone deal with them, and the checks in place prevent legislature from even coming close to keeping ahead of the technology.
The solution? Dunno. But I do no the solution is not easy, and I would say that at least, at least 75% of the job rests with the parents, who should be educated about and enabled by technology in a way that helps them - they can't just palm this one off to the government because there isn't really much the government can do about it without turning into China.

Nah buster, no kids for me thank fuck lol; wait a few years
i do see that as me not having the experiences needed to say any particular method of raising a child is right/wrong (even tho there is no such thing in my opinion) or could be improved but what spud has stated is what my approach to the matter would be
