kidToni: I feel that religion is a little too 'easy', plays free and loose with what we know to be true and what is irrefutable (regardless of the extent) Do you think our advancement really lies in religion or scientifically approaching the concept. ie.
Religion: God did it, nothing to see here, carry on building mud huts. byproduct = guilt free happy life
vs
Science: How did we get here? Dunno, lets keep looking till we find out? byproduct = advancement in every way conceivable.
People assume science to be the answer to the big question, truth is? It's not, it's just a vehicle for getting there.
PS. Bread goes in, toast comes out, Can't explain that.

Re: The God Delusion
inky what your not understanding is that the big bang theory and single cell evolution aren't scientific. the advancement of this world does indeed come from science, but not in those areas of science. they way you put it makes it sound like christians don't believe in any science, which is foolish as einstein, darwin, and newton for example were all christian. i'm not argueing against science, i'm arguing against a theory which is believed to be fact in science, going against scientific principle.

Thanx Flyphe , and research is something missing from this thread lol .
My mum doesnt believe in god but believes theres goto be something after death ???
Will argue for evolution but hasnt a clue about it , i actually find that christians have more of an understanding of the
Theory of evolution than atheists ??

"What really astounds me is the architecture of life. The system is extremely complex. It’s like it was designed"
Nothing in evolution is a proven fact , diversity yes , adaption yes , evolution no ...
and do changes in frequency of alleles in a population accumulate over hundreds of millions of years to the point that humans can descend from bacteria? hmm can we descend from bacteria that descended from non-organinic(dead) matter ?
and increasing entropy is a universal law of decreasing complexity, whereas evolution is supposed to be a universal law of increasing complexity , contradiction of natural selection no ?
Hypothesis , theories , again life cannot come from nothing and order does not come from chaos .

watched that video with Dawkins , i was surprised how much he didnt know on the origin of life from non-organic matter , in fact he knew nothing about it an admitted it , his take was god was to complex for an answer on the origin of the universe and that the origin "when discovered" would be much simpler ...
As for the priest , im glad the roman catholic church doesnt hold the monopoly on christinity because his answeres were a feeding fest for atheists what a joke .

Also
in his book Darwin's Black Box, Michael Behe, a biochemist,
suggests that the internal structure of a cell is so complicated that it could not possibly have evolved on its own. In fact, he goes further and says that such structures are irreducibly complex which means that no simpler formation is possible. Behe's book has hit a raw nerve largely because he is absolutely right in pointing out that there is no evolutionary pathway we know of that could have led to the cell.
and
He believes that the irreducible complexity of cellular structures point firmly to them having been designed. This went down like a lead balloon in the scientific community because to them design means there must be a designer and the only candidate would seem to be God.

yeah dv8 - reminds me of fractal mathematics...processed values continually approach infinity or approach zero...these forumale have been used in the last 30 years or so by NASA and other big research mobs to emulate organic life in an attempt to reproduce it. Some time ago the scientists believed they had managed to reproduce the same plasma that all matter in the universe began with...they were using this plasma along with the fractals to attempt to reproduce the organic models. Of course they can't work out why there's no life spark and where to get that from and in the meantime children die from starvation...but hey...mad scientists be mad scientisting...
