The PiT forums are just phpbb, however with some coding skills it can be build it into a overall site or portal (like 4SeasonsGaming) . Its fairly easy to setup.

Depending on your needs, it might be easier to use something thats more modular like wordpress?

Using seperate partitions. Ext3 (as example) for Linux; noting you'll need a swap file partition aswell.
